Photomath is a mathematics tool that enables students to scan math problems with their device camera, and the app will solve it. Download Photomath and watch your math performance escalate.

Functionality 4/5

This application can recognize and work out mathematical problems, which include arithmetic and calculus, instantaneously by using your mobile device camera. With Photomath, you will learn how to solve math problems by viewing animated steps and exhaustive instructions. You can also check your homework for any mathematical problem and be taken through the steps of solving it. Once the application has captured the equation, a series of steps are generated on how to arrive at the answer, showing the specific actions that can be used in solving a similar problem.

Design 4/5

Photomath has a decent design considering that it is a math application and that its canvas is illustrative of a square ruled mathematics exercise books. For the most part, the interface doesn’t try to draw attention to itself and lets you focus on math. Although the use of maroon color for some UI elements is a very nice touch that adds some flair to an otherwise bland design.

Usability 4/5

One of the important aspects to bring to light in this Photomath review is that the application does all the hard work for you. In this case, it means you won’t have to look for barely used characters to enter your equation. You just snap a picture of the problem, and the app will scan it for you. Otherwise, all other input will be just a matter of interacting with the interface elements and not really typing in data. This simplified the app usability to the extent that at some point all you will be left to do is read, scroll through instructions and try to solve similar problems outside the app such as on a piece of paper. Navigational icons have been positioned at the top and bottom for easy accessibility and cleanliness of the interface. Instructional components enable you to identify specific functions and features in the application without much effort. When exploring graphs, you use your fingers to touch and drag on the screen to view different parts.

Cross-Platform Use 4/5

Photomath is available to iOS and Android users as a free download from the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store respectively. Looking at Android requirement specifications, the minimum OS version needed changes depending on the device. As for iOS users, the required OS version is iOS 10.0 and up. As it is with most other apps, this one supports iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

In-App Purchases

The app has several in-app products that you can purchase for more complete user experience. You can buy one of the Photomath Genius subscriptions if you have a compatible textbook. If the app doesn’t recognize that you have it, it will not let you buy the subscription. It is great to see that the developers care about their customers’ money and prevent accidental purchases.

The Bottom Line

Download Photomath and get access to instructional steps on how to solve difficult problems by simply scanning them using your device camera. The Photomath will do the rest for you. This is a game-changing application as students can quickly understand the steps shown in the app and the formulas used in solving the problems. This is a fun way of students learning mathematics and improving their grades as well as knowledge.
